Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, has welcomed news that an all-Wales Economic Summit is to meet to discuss the present financial crisis and its impact on the Welsh economy.
The Summit, which is set-to take place next Thursday, will be chaired by First Minister Rhodri Morgan. Also at the meeting will be Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones with responsibility for the Economy and Transport in the Welsh Assembly Government and Secretary of State for Wales Paul Murphy.
The summit will also involve leaders of some of Wales’s top companies, trade unionists, Wales’s Business Partnership and representatives of the all the key economic sectors in Wales – including construction, retail and financial services.
Commenting ahead of the Summit, Lesley Griffiths AM said:
“I welcome news that this Summit has been convened. As we all know, the financial crisis has become a fast moving situation and the repercussions for the rest of the Welsh economy – not just the financial sector – could be far-reaching.
“The Welsh Assembly Government are to be congratulated in pulling together all the main people who are ‘driving’ the economy in Wales. This is a bold and decisive move. The Government are taking the right approach in asking for a united effort to address the current problems and those that may yet occur, in the weeks and months ahead.”
