Welsh Labour today said David Cameron’s failure to appoint a Welsh Conservative MP to his shadow cabinet was a further sign that the Tory party in Wales is suffering from a “credibility crunch”.
The Tory leader has re-appointed Cheryl Gillan, the MP for Chesham and Amersham in Buckinghamshire, South East England as Shadow Secretary of State for Wales. This is despite the Tory party having three Members of Parliament in Wales.
Commenting on the Tory reshuffle, Labour’s Vale of Clwyd MP Chris Ruane said:
“Things are clearly going from bad to worse for the Conservative party in Wales.
“In recent weeks, we’ve witnessed a deafening silence from both David Cameron and George Osborne as they failed to show any support for Nick Bourne as he continues to cling on to the leadership of the Tory party in Wales.
“But today, things have clearly worsened for the Welsh Conservatives following Cameron’s snub to his party in Wales by failing yet again to appoint a Welsh MP to his shadow cabinet.
“The Tory party has already lost any credibility it had with the people of Wales. But today, Cameron is clearly sending a message to the people of Wales that he himself has lost all faith in the Welsh Conservative party.
“The Tory party never has, and never will, put Wales first.”
