Wrexham AM welcomes business expansion figures

Lesley Griffiths, Labour AM for Wrexham, has welcomed new figures that show more than one-fifth of Welsh small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are expecting to expand this year.

According to research from Close Invoice Finance, nearly 45 per cent predicted that their business would stay the same size in the coming year while 27.8 per cent said they were expecting to grow.
The survey suggests only four per cent of those businesses asked are planning to stop trading.
The Welsh figures are far more positive than the UK-wide figures, where only 20 per cent of firms predict expansion.

Lesley Griffiths said:

“The Welsh economy is having to re-adjust rapidly to the current global economic situation. The results of this survey are interesting, as they provide us with a ’snapshot’ of the current mood amongst small and medium sized businesses in Wales – a mood that is patently not as pessimistic as the rest of the UK, when it comes to dealing with this re-adjustment.

“I am also encouraged at the fact that the research behind this survey was commissioned by a company of repute within the business community.”
