Westminster Conservatives have announced plans to cut 200 jobs at City Hall as residents and staff count the cost of the Council’s reckless £17 million investment in now-failed Icelandic banks. Labour Councillors say that services will suffer and staff morale will fall as the jobs are cut and when staff leave and are not replaced.
Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group said:
“The loss of £17 million in now-failed Icelandic banks is bound to have an impact on the services provided by the Council. The Conservatives have been in denial about this massive financial loss but now the true impact is coming through in both employment and human terms. 200 people will not only lose their livelihoods, but they will no longer be providing a service to Westminster residents. This is the Conservative legacy – lost services, lost jobs and lost livelihoods for 200 people.”
