Double yellow lines removed as Westminster Labour scores victory for Moscow Road shopkeepers

Thanks to the efforts of Labour Councillors double yellow lines which were destroying the business of shopkeepers along Moscow Road have been removed by Westminster City Council. The CCTV camera in Moscow Road will no longer be used for enforcing yellow line restrictions, other than for excessive waiting beyond 20 minutes. Labour Councillors have been battling on behalf of Moscow Road traders for three months and fought on despite being initially told by the City Council that nothing could be done to help the embattled shopkeepers who had lost half of their trade because drivers were consistently being given £60 parking tickets.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group, said:

“This is a victory for common sense and the persistence of Labour’s never-give-up efforts. We knew that the Council was wrong to keep the double yellow line in Moscow Road and they have finally admitted that we were right. We now hope that the Moscow Road shopkeepers can recover their trade after the Council’s efforts to force them out of business.”
