Labour call for inquiry into lack of Westminster primary school places

Labour Councillors have called for an inquiry into why less than 80 percent of Westminster four and five year old children have been successful in getting into their first choice primary school and why 8 percent of children have not been allocated a place at any primary school. These shocking figures were revealed in the “Evening Standard” on Friday 29th May.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group, said:

“It is very distressing for parents and their children when they do not get into their first choice primary school and even more distressing when no school at all is available. Getting off to a good start at school is very important and for four and five year olds to be offered no school place at all is a scandalous state of affairs. We are calling for an urgent inquiry so that the Council can explain what has gone wrong and so that whatever action needs to be taken before next September can be put in place as soon as possible.”
