Labour Councillors have supported Westminster UNISON’s call for Westminster City Council to follow in Boris Johnson’s footsteps and adopt the London Living Wage of £7.45 per hour for all Council staff, an increase of almost £2 per hour on the current national minimum wage of £5.52 per hour.
Boris Johnson, Conservative London Mayor, continued Ken Livingstone’s commitment to pay the London Living Wage for all contractors and sub-contractors working on the 2012 Olympics project. Labour Councillors support Westminster UNISON’s call for Westminster City Council to do the same.
Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group said:
“At a time of real economic difficulties, we support improved pay and conditions for Westminster’s lowest paid staff and call on the Council to follow Boris Johnson’s example and agree to adopt the London Living Wage as a matter of urgency. “
