Labour Councillors are calling for more women-only leisure sessions following Church Street Councillor Aziz Toki’s success in securing three women-only sessions a week at Seymour Leisure Centre and persuading Imperial NHS Trust to open up the staff swimming facilities at St Mary’s hospital for women-only use of their pool. However, Labour Councillors say that more improvements are needed as there are inadequate numbers of women lifeguards at both Seymour Leisure Centre and even fewer women life guards at the Jubilee Sports Centre in Queen’s Park.
Councillor Toki said:
“We are delighted that we have been able to persuade Imperial NHS Trust to provide women-only sessions. More and more women are seeking this type of service. One session a week at the Jubilee Sports Centre is completely insufficient. The popularity of the women-only sessions is such that women in Queen’s Park are now being turned away at the door. An immediate increase in the number of sessions is essential, as is the number of women lifeguards.”
