Older Queen’s Park residents set to enjoy complementary care

Older residents in Queen’s Park Ward will soon be benefiting from complementary health care from the Munro Health Co-Operative, as part of the Queen’s Park Ward neighbourhood budget.
As part of the proposals put forward by Queen’s Park Labour Councillors Paul Dimoldenberg, Mushtaq Qureshi and Barrie Taylor, the Munro Health Co-Operative will be providing complementary therapies (i.e. reflexology and massage) to Queen’s Park residents with a low income over the age of 60 years old. One therapist will be treating 6 clients each week for 6 months in a venue in Queen’s Park. The cost of the project is £4,000.

The Munro Health Co-Operative Ltd is dedicated to the provision of complementary health care to people who would normally not be able to afford such treatments, as well as serving the wider community and targeting special needs. The organisation was founded in 2002 by therapists from the Munro Centre for Complementary Health Care which was founded by Lucille Munro, MBE in 1996. In addition to their work with the Co-Op, therapists also run their own practices. All therapists are fully qualified professionals in their field and carry full indemnity insurance.

The aims of the project are

* To improve the health and well-being of residents over the age of 60 years old in Queen’s Park

* To provide residents over the age of 60 years old (particularly to those who would otherwise not be able to afford it) the opportunity to experience complementary therapies in a local venue

* To assist in raising the standard of life and living in one of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Westminster

Queen’s Park Labour Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer this complementary health care service to the over 60s in Queen’s Park Ward and hope that it helps to improve the quality of life enjoyed by local residents. We have had very good reports about the Munro Health Co-Operative and and this is a good way of helping older residents to enjoy life more.”
