Westminster Council ends hope of council home for children of existing tenants

Westminster Conservatives have axed the popular Family Quota Scheme which gave the children of Council tenants and leaseholders some priority for Council housing, giving low-income families the opportunity to stay in their local area, live close to their family and friends and contribute to the community at a price they could afford. There are currently 380 children of local families registered on the Family Quota scheme who have had their priority status removed by the Council in a shake-up of housing allocation policy.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group, said; “One of the meanest and hard-hearted decisions taken by Westminster Conservatives recently has been the axing of the Family Quota scheme which gave some priority for Council housing to the children of Council tenants and leaseholders. There are 380 children of local families registered on the Family Quota scheme who have now had their hopes dashed of a home in Westminster that they can afford. What else is Council housing for if it is not for people who have lived in the area all their life, are on low incomes and have no practical alternative? What have the Conservatives got against Council tenants and their children? Will they not be satisfied until Westminster’s Council housing is cleared of all those who are on low incomes?”
