Westminster Labour calls on Council to start long-delayed Broadley Gardens project

Church Street Labour Councillors Barbara Grahame and Aziz Toki have called on Westminster City Council to “get a move on” with the long-delayed rebuilding of Broadley Gardens which has been closed for over a year, depriving families of one of the few green spaces in this heavily built-up area south of Church Street market.

Labour Councillors say that the Council promised that the rebuilt Broadley Gardens would be open again by this summer, but the gardens are still boarded up and there is no evidence of any work being done by anyone.

Councillor Barbara Grahame said: “The Conservatives have abandoned Broadley Gardens and have allowed it to become derelict, neglected and overgrown with weeds. There are so few places in Church Street for children to play and for older people to sit and now the Conservatives have broken their promise to re-open the garden by the summer.”

Councillor Aziz Toki said: “This is a tale of Conservative neglect and incompetence. We have had one delay after another and excuse after excuse, but still nothing happens. The Conservatives just do not care about the people of Church Street and the boarded-up derelict state of Broadley Gardens is clear evidence of their incompetence.”
