Westminster Labour steps up campaign for social housing

Labour Westminster Councillors have stepped up their campaign for Westminster Council to acquire the long-vacant car park site on the corner of Edgware Road and Church Street and to promote a mixed development, including new social housing for families in the Church Street area in housing need.

Labour say that this long-derelict site could provide scores of new homes for local residents instead of lying idle and contributing nothing to the local community.

Church Street Ward Labour Councillor Barbara Grahame said: “With so many families in the Church Street area in dire housing need it is vital that Westminster takes the initiative to acquire this site and promote a development that will benefit the community. Westminster’s do-nothing Conservatives have allowed this disgraceful waste to continue for 20 years. It is time for a change and a Labour Council would take immediate steps to get development moving on this site.”
