Westminster Labour welcomes CBE for Bradley Wiggins

Labour Councillors have welcomed the award of a CBE to Maida Vale’s three Olympic Cycling Gold Medal winner Bradley Wiggins in the New Year’s Honours. Labour say that this is a fitting tribute to Westminster’s most famous sportsman.

Last year, Labour Councillors proposed that Bradley Wiggins be given the Freedom of Westminster for his record-breaking Olympic achievements but the proposal was not supported by the Conservatives who instead proposed that a plaque be located at Paddington Rec. The plaque has yet to be installed.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group, said:

“It is fantastic news that Bradley Wiggins has been awarded the CBE for his unique Olympic achievements. The whole of Westminster is proud of him and the honour that the has brought to his sport and to Westminster.”
