Westminster’s Labour Councillors welcome increased doctors’ opening times for local patients

Labour Councillors in Westminster have welcomed the news that more than half of local doctors in Westminster are now offering patients longer opening times, following the announcement that 28 of the 52 doctors’ practices in Westminster have signed up to offer extra hours for patients. The increased hours cover the early morning before 8am, after 6.30pm in the evening and on Saturday mornings. The numbers are expected to rise further as more doctors work with their staff to achieve this.

Two examples of how the additional opening times are already working are:

* The Marylebone Health Centre at Marylebone Road NW1 will have additional appointments available for patients starting at 7am with the last appointment at 7.30pm for two days each week.

* The Bayswater Medical Centre in Craven Road, W2, has started offering extended hours for patients offering a late night Wednesday surgery until 8pm and Saturday morning opening .

In addition to this extra doctors services which will be open from 8am-8pm, seven days a week are being planned for Queen’s Park and Victoria.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group said;

“This is very good news for local residents and shows how the Labour Government is delivering improved services for local people even at a time of economic difficulties.”
