Young people in Westminster set to benefit from ‘Future Jobs Fund’ success

Labour Councillors have welcomed the news that Westminster City Council has been successful with its application to the Government’s ‘Future Jobs Fund’ to provide 95 young people with:

* pre-employment training;
* a 6 month supported placement, and;
* on-going employment support.

Employment placements will be in a range of sectors including green jobs, childcare, hospitality and social enterprises. A condition of the funding is that all jobs must demonstrate a clear ’social benefit’. Groundwork and Westminster Kingsway College will co-ordinate the programme working with local employers, Westminster Works providers and Jobcentre Plus. The total Government funding grant is £617,500 with a maximum of £6,500 available for each candidate over a 26 week period.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group said:

“This is very good news for nearly 100 young local residents looking for jobs. The Government money will help these young people get a start on the job ladder during these tough economic times. Government action is helping to get young people into work and through the current economic problems.”
